Biogas Technology and Design

Biogas is the mixture of gas produced by methanogenic bacteria while acting upon biodegradable materials in an anaerobic condition. It is mainly composed of 50-70 percent methane, 30-40 percent carbon dioxide, and some other gases. It is about 20 percent lighter than air. It is an odorless gas that burns with clear blue flame similar to that of LPG gas.

The biogas plant construction under BSP has following characteristics:

  • Fixed Dome (GGC 2047 Model)
  • Sizes 4,6 and 8 cubic meters
  • Feeding materials:
    • Cattle dung & water
    • Human excreta
  • Individual household plant
  • Feasible upto 2,100 metres altitude
  • Modified GGC-2047 with heap composting technique is recommended for upto 3,000 metres altitude.
